    Description

    1862-S Half Eagle, Attractive XF45
    Scarce in All Grades

1862-S $5 XF45 NGC. Despite having nearly twice the mintage (9,500 pieces), the 1862-S half eagle is every bit as scarce as its Philadelphia counterpart and actually more so in high grade. This Choice XF coin displays excellent detail and remarkably smooth, original olive-gold surfaces. Eye appeal greatly exceeds expectations for the grade. Fewer than 100 survivors are known in all levels of preservation, an estimate supported by certified population data. Census: 9 in 45, 20 finer (10/16).
