Description

1863 Half Eagle, Near-Mint
None Finer at PCGS

1863 $5 AU58 PCGS. With a business-strike mintage of only 2,422 pieces, the 1863 half eagle is a significant Philadelphia rarity in the No Motto series, though even within its year it is overshadowed by the 1863-S. Still, connoisseurs know well how rare high-grade representatives are, and as an AU58, this coin qualifies. Sharply struck devices are minimally worn, though the left obverse field is cloudy. Faintly green-gold luster glimmers elsewhere in the fields. Population: 5 in 58, 0 finer (12/13).
