1864 Half Eagle, AU55
Well-Struck and Lightly Marked

1864 $5 AU55 NGC. Struck near the end of the Civil War, the 1864 Philadelphia half eagles saw a production of only 4,100 coins, which doubtless failed to circulate at the time, given the incessant hoarding of gold and silver. This Choice AU example shows good eye appeal over orange-gold surfaces that are well-struck and lightly marked.
