Description

Rare 1864 Half Eagle, AU55
Only Three Finer PCGS Coins

1864 $5 AU55 PCGS. CAC. From a tiny Civil War mintage of 4,170 pieces, the 1864 Liberty half eagle is an elusive and underrated date, with 60-75 pieces extant in all grades. This attractive Choice AU specimen shows just a touch of wear on the sharply detailed devices. The lustrous greenish-gold surfaces exhibit few signs of circulation. Population: 5 in 55, 3 finer (8/11).(Registry values: P7)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VU, PCGS# 8296, Greysheet# 8910)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
