Description
1865 Half Eagle, AU Details
Mintage of 1,270 Pieces
1865 $5 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Since gold
coins did not circulate in 1865 due to Civil War hoarding, the tiny
business mintage of 1,270 pieces was likely intended to prevent
speculation over the 25 proofs. This butter-gold representative has
minimal wear and moderately abraded fields. The surfaces are bright
but lack distracting hairlines.(Registry values: P8)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25VW, PCGS# 8298, Greysheet# 8911)
