1865-S Five Dollar, AU53
Conditionally Elusive S-Mint Issue

1865-S $5 AU53 NGC. The 1865-S five dollar is more frequently encountered in low grades. At one time, there were no Uncirculated coins known (before the salvage of the S.S. Brother Jonathan). An AU53, such as this coin, is still one of the finer examples obtainable and is close to the lower end of the Condition Census. The surfaces on this piece are reddish-gold with noticeable traces of mint luster surrounding the devices. Numerous small to medium-sized abrasions are peppered over each side.(Registry values: P7)
