Rare S-Mint Issue

1865-S $5 XF45 NGC. CAC. Rare in all grades, the San Francisco Mint produced only 27,612 half eagles in 1865, of which most were lost to circulation. Thus, they are most often encountered in circulated condition and prior to the discover of the S.S. Brother Jonathan, none were known in Mint State. This Choice Extremely Fine coin representative features reddish-gold surface coloration and maintains strong detail. Marks are scattered over each side, consistent with the grade.(Registry values: P7)
