Description
Delightful 1867 Half Eagle, AU53
1867 $5 AU53 NGC. While the San Francisco Mint was striking a decent number of half eagles in the 1860s, production at the Philadelphia Mint was quite low. Only 6,870 fives were struck in Philadelphia in 1867. Although this issue is rare in all grades, AU and finer examples are particularly difficult to locate. Scattered abrasions minimally affect the pleasing luster that graces the pale yellow surfaces of this sharply struck specimen. An excellent example in an uncommonly nice condition. Census: 12 in 53, 20 finer (8/08).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W3, PCGS# 8313, GSID# 8913)
