Description
1867 Half Eagle, AU53
Fewer Than 100 Pieces Believed Known
1867 $5 AU53 NGC. The 1867 half eagle is just about as
scarce as the previous issue from the Philadelphia Mint. Just 6,870
pieces were struck, and NGC and PCGS combined have certified an
example on only 92 occasions across all gradable conditions. The
auction appearance rate for this issue is virtually identical to
that of the 1866 Philadelphia coin, with most pieces grading either
XF or AU. Uncirculated examples are prohibitively rare. This AU53
coin displays hints of reddish patina across bronze-gold surfaces,
with bold design elements and hints of luster. Census: 12 in 53, 11
finer (3/18).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W3, PCGS# 8313, Greysheet# 8913)
Weight: 8.36 grams
