Scarce, Low Mintage AU50 1868 Five Dollar

1868 $5 AU50 NGC. A scarce issue from a low mintage of 5,700 coins, all struck in mid-January 1868 and apparently all from one pair of dies. A second die pair was utilized for the few proofs that were struck the following month. Pale pinkish-yellow gold with traces of luster in the protected areas, and hints of greenish coloration on both sides. The surfaces are moderately abraded.(Registry values: P3)
