Description
1868 Half Eagle, AU55
Original, White-Gold Example
1868 $5 AU55 NGC. White-gold color dominates moderately
abraded surfaces and moderately struck devices. This issue was part
of the low mintage string of Philadelphia dates that extended
almost uninterrupted from the latter half of the Civil War through
1877, and production only amounted to 5,700 half eagles in 1868.
This date is a serious conditional rarity, with only eight Mint
State certifications between PCGS and NGC, making original AU
examples like the present offering an especially important
opportunity.(Registry values: P3)From The Carolina Classics Collection.
