Not Sold Description
Scarce 1868-S Five Dollar, AU50
1868-S $5 AU50 NGC. The 1868-S was a much-needed issue on the west coast in the late 1860s. The 52,000 pieces produced were almost all used in the channels of commerce and only three coins have been certified to date (8/07) in mint condition. This coin shows light friction over the highpoints. Weakly struck, as usual, in the centers. A surprising amount of mint luster remains for a coin in this grade. Attractive pinkish-rose patina is seen over each side. (Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W6, PCGS# 8316, GSID# 9047)
