Description

Exemplary Near-Mint 1869 Half Eagle

1869 $5 AU58 NGC. The total coinage of 1,760 business strikes for this postbellum issue means that the certified survivors today, when they can be found at all, average Choice XF or so. This exemplary near-Mint State piece boasts lovely orange-gold coloration, mellowing to deep orange near the date, and lots of luster appears on both sides. The strike is somewhat soft through the centers of each side, but there are relatively few abrasions and the eye appeal is quite high. Census: 7 in 58, 2 finer (12/08).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W7, PCGS# 8317, Greysheet# 8915)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
