Description
1869 Half Eagle, AU58
Only 1,760 Circulation Strikes
1869 $5 AU58 NGC. With one of the lowest mintages in the
entire Liberty Head half eagle series, the 1869 issue is
surprisingly overlooked by even seasoned collectors. Just 1,760
pieces were struck, and auction appearances are sparse. This
near-Mint example displays partially prooflike surfaces (to be
expected with such a low mintage). Vibrant orange-gold surfaces
host a reasonably sharp strike, which lacks crispness only on
Liberty's central curls and the eagle's neck. Light abrasions on
both sides determine the assigned grade. Census: 9 in 58, 2 finer
(10/19).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W7, PCGS# 8317, Greysheet# 8915)
Weight: 8.36 grams
