Description
Deeply Toned 1869-S Five, AU53
1869-S $5 AU53 PCGS. A deeply toned and lovely survivor of this postbellum S-mint half eagle. Mellow orange-gold centers cede to lilac, blue, and violet near the rims on each side, an unusual but engaging effect that nonetheless appears completely original. This piece, from a mintage of 31,000 coins, shows quite a few small abrasions but no singular impairments, and some of the central high-point detail is a bit softly struck. But this piece retains compelling eye appeal. Population: 6 in 53, 7 finer (3/11).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W8, PCGS# 8318, Greysheet# 9048)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
