Choice Original Surfaces

1869-S $5 AU55 NGC. CAC. Mint luster appears briefly around the stars and legends of this Choice About Uncirculated half eagle, which is conditionally scarce above XF and rare in full Mint State. Original, olive-gold surfaces show faint orange accents and only minor marks across both sides. Just 31,000 pieces were struck, and most (if not all) entered West Coast commerce. The few survivors are generally well-worn as a result. Census: 16 in 55, 15 finer (11/15).(Registry values: P3)
