Description

1869-S Five Dollar, AU55
Conditionally Elusive

1869-S $5 AU55 NGC. Half eagle coinage in San Francisco in 1869 amounted to 31,000 pieces, although high-grade survivors are rare. This Choice AU representative offers original wheat-gold coloration with substantial luster remaining in the fields. The strike is soft on the eagle's neck and the fletchings, as usual. A linear mark near stars 4 and 5 is the only mentionable abrasion. Census: 17 in 55, 17 finer (10/16).
