Description
1869-S Half Eagle, AU55
Underrated S-Mint Five Dollar Issue
1869-S $5 AU55 NGC. Small S mintmark. This S-mint issue from
the late 1860s is likely underrated, a situation that will probably
correct someday. The mintage was 31,000 pieces, most of which
circulated extensively in the Wild West of the day. This Choice AU
example boasts great eye appeal and a decent strike over surfaces
with deep reddish-orange color and only light field chatter. A
conditionally elusive coin. Census: 10 in 55, 12 finer (2/14).From the Collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: P3)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W8, PCGS# 8318, Greysheet# 9048)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
