Description
1869-S Half Eagle, AU55
Conditionally Rare S-Mint Issue
1869-S $5 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Ex: D.L. Hansen Collection. This
San Francisco issue circulated on the West Coast primarily,
exempting it from the hoarding that took place in the Eastern
United States during the Reconstruction, although its minimal
mintage of 31,000 pieces ensures its scarcity overall. The current
Choice AU coin is rare, and only a handful of pieces this fine are
CAC endorsed. Slight strike softness is noted, as well as light
wear, but the original orange-gold patina and strong remnants of
luster produce ample eye appeal. Population: 6 in 55 (1 in 55+), 5
finer. CAC: 3 in 55, 3 finer (3/24).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W8, PCGS# 8318, Greysheet# 9048)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
