Description

Condition Rarity 1869-S Half Eagle, AU55

1869-S $5 AU55 PCGS. Like other San Francisco issues of the 1860s the 1869-S half eagle was heavily circulated, and most surviving coins are well worn. The honey-gold surfaces of this Choice AU example display traces of luster in the protected areas and are tinted with mint-green. The design features are well defined except for the usual localized weakness on the eagle and adjacent elements. Distributed contact marks are visible over each side. Mint State pieces are virtually unobtainable. Population: 3 in 55, 5 finer (8/09).(Registry values: P3)
