Description

1869-S $5 XF45 NGC. The San Francisco Mint struck close to 700,000 double eagles in 1869, but other denominations were neglected. Only 31,000 half eagles were struck, and few if any were set aside. NGC and PCGS combined have certified only four Mint State examples, none above MS62. This is an unblemished example with noticeable luster throughout the reverse legends. The devices show inexactness of strike, usual for the facility and era.(Registry values: P3)
