Description
AU55+ 1870 Half Eagle
Difficult Low-Mintage Issue
1870 $5 AU55+ NGC. Just 4,000 business strikes were issued
for this challenging Philadelphia issue. Since few if any collected
gold coins at the time, nor could afford to do so, the mintage went
into circulation, and NGC has yet to certify any as Mint State. The
present butter-gold piece has substantial luster but fields show
slight rub. The strike is crisp, and no marks distract. Census: 1
in 55+, 13 finer (9/11).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W9, PCGS# 8319, Greysheet# 8916)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
