Description

Desirable 1870-CC Half Eagle
Uncommonly Appealing XF45

1870-CC $5 XF45 PCGS. CAC. "Key to a set of 'CC' half eagles and highly esteemed by gold coin specialists, the 1870-CC $5 is rarely available in grades above XF and practically nonexistent in Uncirculated condition." So Rusty Goe introduces the issue in his The Mint on Carson Street, though the collector who sets eyes on this remarkable Choice XF representative might well wonder if a higher-graded example would be worth pursuing after all! It boasts far better central definition than is often seen, and while minor marks are present on each side, only a handful, such as the one to the left of Liberty's chin, attract any sort of individual notice. The apricot-accented yellow-gold surfaces retain a subtle radiance. Population: 10 in 45, 15 finer (10/09).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WA, PCGS# 8320, Greysheet# 9049)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
