Description
Rare Choice AU 1870-S Half Eagle
1870-S $5 AU55 NGC. Boldly struck, save for flatness on the eagle's neck, with slight wear on the highpoints and substantial bits of red-orange luster still evident near the devices. Hairlines and small abrasions are noted on both sides. According to Garrett and Guth (2006): "The 1870-S half eagle is found only in circulated condition and usually well worn at that.
