Description

1870-S Half Eagle, AU58
Scarce San Francisco Mint Issue

1870-S $5 AU58 NGC. The 1870-S Liberty Head half eagle is a very scarce issue with a meager mintage of 17,000 gold coins. Evidently all of the coins circulated in commerce, as both PCGS and NGC have not recorded any Uncirculated examples. This yellow gold specimen has frosty luster within the devices and fields. Grade-consistent contact marks are not bothersome, and only light rub on the high points of the design can be seen. An attractive representative of this elusive gold issue.
