Low-Mintage Issue, Appealing Example

1871 $5 AU55 NGC. A low-mintage Reconstruction-era half eagle, the 1871 saw a meager mintage of 3,200 pieces for circulation. This piece is moderately sprinkled with marks yet retains excellent eye appeal. The surfaces are lustrous yellow-gold with rose accents. A planchet indent on the reverse is possibly of Mint origin. Census: 10 in 55, 18 finer (3/13).(Registry values: P3)
