    Description

    1871-CC Half Eagle, AU53
    The Usual 1-A Variety

1871-CC $5 AU53 NGC. Variety 1-A. Even though the mintage of the 1871-CC half eagle, at 20,770 coins, is nearly three times as large as its illustrious predecessor, most of the certified survivors today have circulated down to the range of VF30 or thereabouts; gold coinage was in high demand in the early days of the Carson City Mint. The surfaces show minor, even wear over the device high points, with light orange-gold color. Numerous small abrasions are scattered about, none of singular importance. Census: 4 in 53, 21 finer (4/12).(Registry values: P3)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WD, PCGS# 8323)

    Weight: 8.36 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
