Description

1871-CC Liberty Half Eagle, AU55
Elusive Early CC-Mint Five

1871-CC $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Carson City coinage dated from 1870 to 1873 is scarce and highly sought regardless of denomination. The 1871-CC half eagle is no exception, although it is somewhat more available than other early CC half eagles from a 20,770-piece mintage. Most of the coins circulated heavily in Old West commerce. Mint State pieces are great rarities, and Choice About Uncirculated coins such as the present coin are hold prominent places in advanced collections. This colorful example displays orange and reddish-gold color, with interesting quicksilver accents around the eagle. The original sharp strike is largely intact despite the expected light central wear and a few light marks acquired during brief circulation. Population: 11 in 55, 10 finer (10/22).
