    1871-CC Half Eagle, AU Details
    New Reverse Die Discovery

1871-CC $5 -- Repaired -- NGC Details. AU. Variety 1-C. This represents a new reverse die discovery. The second C in the mintmark virtually touches the branch stem. There are now three confirmed reverse dies employed in the production of 20,770 half eagles at the Carson City Mint in 1871, all paired with a single obverse. This orange-gold five dollar displays AU sharpness with evidence of considerable tooling in the fields.
