Description
1871-CC $5 VG10 NGC. An extremely rare issue in higher grades, this well-circulated example is an excellent addition to any circulated set with its attractive, smoothly worn surfaces and strong remaining detail. Carson City half eagles circulated widely throughout the West, and despite a relatively healthy mintage of 20,770 pieces, few survived. This coin is pleasing for the grade. From the Collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: P3)
