Description
Lustrous AU 1871-S Half Eagle
1871-S $5 AU 55 NGC. Double Punched Date. Breen-6678. A difficult San Francisco half eagle and an even greater condition rarity, from a deceptively high mintage of 25,000 coins. This example shows a touch of softness on Liberty's highest curls and on the eagle's neck, with the normal quota of mostly inoffensive marks on each side. Our experience with the '71-S places this piece at the low end of the Condition Census scale for the issue. Population: 6 in 55, 2 finer (6/99).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WE, PCGS# 8324, Greysheet# 9052)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
