Description
Important AU 1872-CC Half Eagle
1872-CC $5 AU50 PCGS. In his 2003 work The Mint on Carson Street, Rusty Goe wrote: "At the turn of the 21st century, the 1872-CC is the only date in the Carson City half eagle series that has not had a specimen graded in Mint State condition by either PCGS or NGC." That still holds true, which makes AU coins such as the present piece all the more important (5/09). Though it is lightly worn across the high points with scattered minor abrasions on each side, its pale wheat-gold surfaces retain considerable radiance, and its eye appeal is winning. Strongly attractive and potentially underrated. Population: 8 in 50, 12 finer (5/09).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WG, PCGS# 8326, Greysheet# 9053)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
