Description

1872-CC Five Dollar, AU53
None Certified in Mint State

1872-CC $5 AU53 NGC. Variety 1-B. Partially reflective, partially lustrous fields give this About Uncirculated 1872-CC half eagle excellent eye appeal. The strike is sharp, and the bright yellow-gold surfaces show only trivial high-point friction and field chatter. Eye appeal exceeds expectations for the grade and issue.

The 1872-CC is a scarce and popular Carson City issue, boasting a small survival of less than 100 coins in all grades. No Mint State pieces are certified, making attractive AU coins highly sought-after. During the 1870s and '80s, the Carson City issues were the most heavily circulated dates in the half eagle series, making them the biggest keys in all grades today. Census: 5 in 53, 10 finer (7/16).
