Description

1872-CC Five Dollar, Choice AU
Mid-Condition Census Quality

1872-CC $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-B. Only 16,980 pieces were struck of this heavily circulated issue. Today a mere 70-80 coins are believed extant in all grades with the majority in VF-XF condition. This is one of the finest known and it appears to be a mid-Condition Census example, according to the census listed in Doug Winter's 2001 CC gold reference. The surfaces are bright with even yellow-gold color and significant amounts of mint luster remain surrounding the devices. The strike is soft in the centers, as usually found. Each side has numerous small to medium-sized abrasions, the most apparent located on the face of Liberty.(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WG, PCGS# 8326, Greysheet# 9053)
