Description

Elusive 1872-S Half Eagle, AU55

1872-S $5 AU55 PCGS. The 1872-S half eagle, with a mintage of 36,400 pieces, is a very rare issue in any grade, and is nearly unobtainable in Mint State. The Choice AU example in this lot exhibits bright yellow-gold surfaces that retain a considerable amount of luster. The design features are well brought up, and just a few minute abrasions are scattered about on both sides. This piece is currently tied with six others as the finest-graded at PCGS (10/09).(Registry values: P3)
