1873 Open 3 Five Dollar, MS63
Superior Mint Luster

1873 $5 Open 3 MS63 PCGS. The Open 3 variant was struck between November 19 and 29, 1873. These pieces are slightly scarcer overall than their Closed 3 counterpart, and they are notably lacking in the better grades of Mint State. Only 11 pieces have been so graded by PCGS with 10 finer (2/14). The obverse is fully struck, while the reverse shows slight softness on the eagle's neck. The bright, lustrous, yellow-gold surfaces are lightly marked on the obverse.
