Description

1873-CC Liberty Half Eagle, VF35 CAC
Evenly Worn Memento of Early Carson City

1873-CC $5 VF35 PCGS. CAC. Winter 2-B. The early gold issues from the legendary Carson City Mint filled a crucial need, the vacuum created by a lack of sufficient gold and silver coinage in the burgeoning State of Nevada. The downside to filling the vacuum is that most of those early issues were sucked into circulation and today are found in well-circulated condition. The 1873-CC five dollar coins were struck to the extent of only 7,416 pieces, and the average grade of certified survivors is VF30. This Choice VF example displays muted surfaces with some smoke-gray coloration. There are no singular abrasions, with wear evenly distributed over each side. The high quality within the grade is confirmed by CAC. A nice example for the grade from this historic mint. Population: 6 in 35, 36 finer. CAC: 1 in 35, 3 finer (1/25).
