Low-Mintage 1874 Half Eagle, AU58
1874 $5 AU58 NGC. CAC. The tiny production of 1874 half eagles was 3,488 business strikes, and few survive today so fine as the present near-Mint State coin. The surfaces are unsurprisingly prooflike, with light surface chatter but appealing orange-gold luster just underneath. The strike is nearly full.
