Description
Prooflike Mint State 1874 Half Eagle
1874 $5 MS61 Prooflike NGC. This is an elusive coin in all grades, from a paltry original mintage of 3,508 pieces. Only five coins have been graded in Mint State, by NGC, and, of those five, just two have received the Prooflike designation, this piece and another graded MS60 Prooflike. The strike on this example is sharp throughout, and the fields show a glittering prooflikeness that is most attractive. There are, however, several distracting marks and some noticeable hairlines in the obverse and reverse fields, which limit the grade. A rare opportunity for the specialist, nevertheless.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WN, PCGS# 78333)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
