Description
1874-CC Half Eagle, AU55
Variety 1-B
1874-CC $5 AU55 NGC. CAC. Variety 1-B. There are seven
different die varieties identified for the 1874-CC half eagles,
despite a low mintage of 21,198 coins. The known varieties were
produced from various combinations of two obverse dies and five
reverse dies. The 1874-CC is the most plentiful Carson City half
eagle of the decade yet remains a rare issue. NGC and PCGS,
combined, have only certified three Mint State pieces and 18 AU58
examples, including resubmissions. This Choice AU specimen has some
typical striking weakness but retains good luster with brilliant
yellow surfaces and trivial marks. Census: 20 in 55, 12 finer
(3/13).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WP, PCGS# 8334, Greysheet# 9057)
Weight: 8.36 grams
