Description
1874-CC Half Eagle
Well-Struck Choice AU
1874-CC $5 AU55 PCGS. While the 1874-CC Liberty five is an
available issue compared to most early CC-mint half eagles, the
average specimen only grades Very Fine to low XF. A Choice AU coin
such as the present example is conditionally elusive, and Mint
State examples are rare. The mintage of the issue was 21,198
pieces, three times the previous year's CC-mint production. Minor
high-point wear is consistent with the grade, but the surfaces are
well-struck and retain considerable luster. Minimal abrasions and
attractive orange-gold surfaces round out the appeal. Population:
15 in 55, 10 finer (9/10).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WP, PCGS# 8334, Greysheet# 9057)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
