Description

1874-CC Variety 1-B Half Eagle, AU55
Second C Higher

1874-CC $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1-B. Mint records show a production of 21,198 half eagles at Carson City in 1874, and that coinage required the use of two obverse dies and five reverse dies, combined to create six or seven die varieties. One of the seven recorded varieties may be unknown, explaining the uncertainty. This pleasing Choice AU specimen has brilliant lemon-yellow surfaces with trivial grade-consistent surface marks. Carson City gold is an extremely popular collecting specialty, and the present specimen will make a nice addition to an advanced collection. Population: 14 in 55, 8 finer (7/13).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WP, PCGS# 8334, Greysheet# 9057)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
