Description

1874-CC Five Dollar, AU55
Smooth Surfaces, Rare This Fine

1874-CC $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 1-C. This Carson City issue comes from a mintage of only 21,198 pieces. Surviving examples are scarce in all grades, mostly residing in XF and lower levels. This issue experienced heavy circulation in Western regions. About Uncirculated examples are rare, and only three Mint State pieces are certified, none finer than MS62. This Choice AU coin displays unusually smooth surfaces for the grade with moderate luster remaining in the protected regions. Slight strike softness is seen on the hair curls around Liberty's face and on the central shield, but the definition is otherwise pleasing. Honey-gold surfaces offer excellent visual appeal. Population: 17 in 55, 10 finer (8/16).(Registry values: P3)
