Description

1874-CC Five Dollar, XF45
Impressively Smooth Surfaces

1874-CC $5 XF45 NGC. Variety 1-B. Half eagle coinage at the Carson City Mint did not become substantial until the 1890s. The 1874-CC had a mintage of 21,198 coins, almost all of which was dispersed into circulation. This is a well-detailed Choice XF representative with remarkably smooth, honey-gold surfaces. The fields show areas of reflectivity, and there is little evidence of wear -- most of the weakness on Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's neck is due to a deficient strike. Housed in a prior generation holder. Census: 22 in 45, 53 finer (3/16).
