Description

1874-CC Five Dollar, XF45
Profound Orange-Gold Color

1874-CC $5 XF45 PCGS. Variety 1-B. Ex: Rian's Bequest. The 7 in the date is centered over a dentil, and the second C in the mintmark is slightly higher than the first. Carson City officials coined nearly three times as many half eagles in 1874 as they did the year before, raising output to 21,198 pieces. Of those, perhaps 200 to 250 coins survive. This above-average Choice XF example is strongly struck with modest friction over the high points. Profound orange-gold color yields to occasional pastel accents in shades of lavender and powder-blue. Population: 17 in 45, 44 finer (11/21).
From The Rian's Bequest Collection. (Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WP, PCGS# 8334, Greysheet# 9057)
