Description

1875-CC Half Eagle, AU55
Conditionally Rare CC Issue

1875-CC $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-B. With a small mintage of 11,828 pieces, the 1875-CC half eagle is scarce in all grades. Most examples saw heavy circulation, and high-grade coins such as the present offering are rarely encountered. Even though the '75-CC has a reputation as one of the poorest struck Carson City fives, this particular coin is strongly detailed in the centers. The rich reddish-golden surfaces show a few minor abrasions, the most obvious ones being the previously mentioned mark on Liberty's chin, and on the reverse a shallow scratch from the eagle's right (facing) wing to the M in AMERICA. Examples of this quality are rarely offered at auction.
