Description

1876 Half Eagle, AU55
A Popular, Infrequently Found Coin

1876 $5 AU55 NGC. The 1876 half eagle is a popular date owing to the very low mintage 1,432 circulation strikes. As might be expected, examples of this issue are seldom encountered in any grade. In this respect, it is worth noting that NGC and PCGS combined have graded just 45 specimens. Reddish-gold and yellow-gold patination runs over both sides of this Choice AU coin. The design elements are well-struck save for the usual softness on the hair at Liberty's temple and the eagle's breast. This is a choice, and infrequent, find for the half eagle collector. Census: 5 in 55, 10 finer (1/14).
