Description
Very Rare MS62 1876 Half Eagle
1876 $5 MS62 NGC. A formidable rarity within the Liberty half eagle series. Only 45 proofs and 1,432 business strikes were coined. Since nobody collected contemporary gold coins in 1876 except in proof format, the commercial pieces went directly into circulation, and most were eventually melted. A handful of Mint State examples are known, including the present moderately prooflike representative. It is crisply struck and has a few inconsequential field marks.(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WW, PCGS# 8339, Greysheet# 8923)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
