Description

1876 Liberty Half Eagle, MS62
Registry Grade, Low-Mintage Issue

1876 $5 MS62 NGC. The 1876 Liberty half eagle claims a small mintage of just 1,477 pieces, the lowest production of any With Motto half eagle. PCGS CoinFacts estimates the surviving population at 40-50 examples in all grades, and Mint State specimens are decidedly rare. Most business strikes are prooflike, and so it is with this coin. There is also considerable cartwheel luster intermixed over the surfaces, as well. The striking details on the obverse are well defined, and there is just a bit of softness noted on the eagle's neck on the reverse. There are numerous small abrasions scattered about each side, but the most distinctive ones are located on the back of Liberty's neck. This coin should find a home in the finest collection or Registry Set. Census: 1 in 62, 1 in 64 PL finer (5/22).
