Description

1876-CC Five Dollar Liberty, AU53
Scarce Carson City Issue
Attractive Original Patina

1876-CC $5 AU53 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Only one die variety is known for the 1876-CC half eagle, which struck a scant mintage of only 6,887 coins. The 1 in the date is centered over a dentil, and the mintmark is closely spaced below the fletching and high above the V in FIVE. Any example of the 1876-CC half eagle is a scarce coin, and AU pieces are rare. Only a handful of Mint State coins survive.

This AU 1876-CC boasts rich orange-gold and honey patina over smooth, satiny surfaces that retain hints of luster in the protected portions of the fields. Some contemporary dirt still clings to the crevices, attesting to the originality of the patina. And the eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 5 in 53, 16 finer (3/25).(Registry values: P3)
